Winter Snow Festival 2020

3 – 15 February 2020 

ITINERARY

Day 1 Tokyo

Depart Australia and arrive Tokyo where we stay overnight and enjoy welcome to Japan drinks and have a good nights sleep 

Day 2 

This morning we fly to the beautiful city of  Sapporo where temperatures can plummet to minus 25 degrees.  On arrival, we will have an orientation tour of the city and the underground shopping precinct (and a chance to acclimatise) before heading up to Sususkino to see the ice carving.  

Day 3  

Today we visit the incredible snow carving of the Sapporo Snow Festival at Odori Park in the centre of Sapporo. Here you will see unbelievable snow sculptures along the full length of Odori Park. There is even a snow-board and ski-jump. 

Day 4  

Travelling by train, we go to the idilic town of Yoichi – home of  Nikka Whiskey one of Japans oldest distilleries and a beautiful scene for some fantastic photos. After a tour of the facility (and tasting if you choose) we move on to the seaside town of Otaru, famed for its snow banked canals and amazing music box factory.

Day 5 

After a relaxing sleep-in, we travel to the international Olympic ski-jump on the outskirts of Sapporo where we may see ski-jumping practice and take the chairlift to the launch area cafe at the top of the ski-jump. After that, we tour through the museum before heading back into the city in time for dinner.

Day 6 – Asahikawa

Today we travel by train through the scenic lands and mountains that surround Sapporo to the city of Asahikawa.  

Day 7 

On day 7  we will see the best ice-carvers in the world creating magnificent sculptures for the 2020 international ice-carving champion ship.

Day 8 – Sounkyo

Today we take the scenic train up into the mountains to Sounkyo onsen in the magnificent Daisetsuzan National park where we will be staying in a traditional Japanese hotel complete with Onsen (Natural hot-spring bath)

Day 9

After a traditional Japanese breakfast, we take the cablecar to the top of the mountain for the most spectacular views and utmost serenity of this white wonderland called Daisetsuzan National Park. As a boss, we come down the mountain to the ‘Ice aviation‘ a huge structure purely made from ice.

Day 10 – Tokyo

Today we fly back to the slightly warmer climate of Tokyo, the largest and capitol city of Japan. Home to more than 30 million people and endless fun and diverse  culture. Tonight we take in the famed Shibuya crossing and see the nightlife of Shinjuku.

Day 11 – Mt Fuji day trip

This special one-day excursion will take you to the magnificent Mount Fuji on our own private’s tourbus.  Here we will travel halfway up the mountain to fifth station (weather permitting) to take in the view before moving further around to Lake Kawaguchiko and the Ice cave. At the end of the day, our driver will take us back to our Tokyo hotel in time for dinner.

Day 12

This is the day that we look around Tokyo. From the imperial palace to the Meiji Jingu Shrine, Tokyo sky tree and the Senso-ji temple at Asakusa. And for those who feel like a bit more, we can hop the train for Akihabara – Electric town

Day 13

Today is our last day in Japan. Just enough time for some last minute shopping before we head to the airport and fly home to Australia.

Day 14

Arrive in Australia and home for lunch.
